  • Exhausted!

Exhaustion; we've all felt it at some point in our lives. I think I'm really feeling it. I do have my spurts of energy, but any time I get the chance to sit for a couple minutes my body wants to shut down.

When you don't get a lot of sleep, you hope to do some catching up. Some say you're not able to get back those precious lost hours. I think they're right.

A week ago at this time I was sitting in the ER with a friend after his car was totaled. After leaving the ER and getting home around 3:30am, I had to be on the road to Indy at 6:15ish. Between that and having early mornings almost every day, it is definitely taking its toll.

I went to get my hair cut this afternoon and fell asleep under the hair dryer. Now, after doing some observing, I was not the only one doing this, but still. I woke myself up because my head kept hitting the dryer dome. I bet it was pretty amusing.

    Dear Sleep,

I love you. We don't get to spend much time together. Please stay longer next time.

    Sincerely,

    Allison

  • Inconsiderate people or am I getting old?

I have had a few experiences in the past couple days that has me asking the question:

"Are people being more inconsiderate or am I just getting old?"

The following are three reasons why I think this...

    1. Saturday night/Sunday morning. I took a rather unexpected long nap on Saturday and was woken up to the sound of congas. You might be wondering "where could this sound be coming from?" Well, it was coming from the apartment below me. This is not the first time (and not the last) that I have heard (and felt) the sounds of instruments coming through the floor. Given that it was between the hours of nine and eleven p.m. on a weekend, I was a little forgiving. My 45 minute nap had turned into a 5 hour nap, so I figured I should get out of bed. Now fast forward to 2:45am. I am laying in bed, just about to fall asleep and what do I hear? A drum set and a ridiculously loud synthesizer. I told myself I'd give them until 3am, then I'm going down there. Well, I did, and it accomplished nothing because they couldn't hear me knocking. So what did I do? I called campus police. After numerous attempts of them ringing the door bell, they finally got my neighbors to answer the door. I had never done anything like that before, but I'm to the point where I'm done being passive-aggressive on that matter. I'm already leaving my apartment between 6:15 and 6:45am Monday through Thursday and will be doing it everyday next semester for student teaching - I value my sleep!

    2. Sunday night - apartment. I get home from rehearsal and open the door to the side of building my apartment is on. I don't even have to get in the doorway when I smell it - cigarette smoke. Seriously people? I think when my landlady said there was no smoking in the apartment, I'm going to guess I was not the only one she told that to. It's bad enough when the people who live here smoke outside but are right below my window, so why are you going to smoke in your apartment with your front door wide open? Ack!

    3. Sunday night - library. I go to the library to scan something, so I'm not doing anything that needs complete concentration. I'm in the basement where the scanners are and there are two girls sitting at a nearby table. I don't notice them at first, but once I get settled in all I hear is them and their conversation. The two of them are just sitting there talking about nothing. I look around and see others studying and being productive and they're just talking about sororities and this one and that one. This has nothing to do with them talking about sororities, it just would be nice if their conversation didn't have to take place in the middle of the basement. They weren't even trying to be quite either. Not to mention about 15 minute later, the one doing the most of the talking packs up and leaves. They weren't even doing any work!

So I will admit this post seems rather bitchy on my part, but what do you think? Are the people in these situations being inconsiderate and not even thinking that other people might be affected by their actions, or am I just being a bitch?

Phew, I just had to get all that out.

  • Ugh

I've realized that I tend to be quite the girl on this here blog. Well, here I go again...

I went on a bike ride today. On my way home I saw him, with her, coming my way. They said 'hi.' I said 'hi' back.

My heart then went right to my throat and remained there for the next 20 minutes. I thought I could have spewed all over the pavement.

    Ugh.
